John Tan

Like many great wine stories, mine started with a glass that changed everything. After discovering wine 12 years ago, I found myself drawn deeper into this fascinating world. The bold flavors of Napa Valley called to me so strongly that I left my tech career behind and moved here, eager to learn everything about wine. While working closely with local wineries, I realized that my background in AI could help solve many of their daily challenges. That's how CorkVision was born – not from a business plan, but from a genuine desire to help this industry I'd fallen in love with.

While pursuing Natural Language Processing at UC Santa Cruz, Cal discovered how AI could bridge the gap between human expertise and technology. Now he's combining his passion for AI with practical business solutions, designing the intelligence systems that make Corky truly understand the unique language of wine. When he's not teaching Corky new tricks, he's exploring ways to make AI more accessible and helpful for everyone in the wine industry.
